BA COURSE LEADER

Kimberly Hall

Kim received her MA from Central St Martins and her work has been recognised by American Illustration and the Society of Publication Designers. She has taught at MICA in  Baltimore and Parsons & FIT in NYC.  Her first book, an illustrated food history, was published in 2019 with Abrams Books and other clients include Anthropologie, Brooklyn Industries, Chronicle Books, and Crate & Barrel Kids.

MA COURSE LEADER

Katie Forrester, PhD

Katie is an image-maker with a focus on visual narrative and printmaking; she has also worked as a freelance art workshop facilitator and volunteer in community arts. Having graduated with a PhD in Design from Edinburgh in 2019, she currently teaches on both the BA and MA Illustration courses.. Katie has research interests in narrative, folktales and intercultural communication.

LECTURER

Tom Spooner

Tom is an artist and educator. Originally from London, Tom moved to Gloucester in 2020. Lived experience and observational drawing initiatives take the fore in his approach to image-making. His visual practice and research are driven by a particular interest in ideas relating to place, memory, and the everyday life of cities. Through self-initiated, personal and collaborative projects, he has exhibited, published, and taught widely on these subjects in the UK and abroad.

LECTURER

Seb Burnett

Seb is an illustrator and character designer from Bristol who loves to tell stories. He lectures on the Illustration and Animation courses at UoG and works as a children's book illustrator, character designer and director for animation and games. Clients include Nickelodeon, CBBC, Puffin, Bloomsbury and Usborne. He has a fondness for the absurd and enjoys befuddling everyone with his creations.

LECTURER

Fumio Obata

Fumio writes stories and makes comic books and graphic novels. He has been specialising in sequential images since receiving his MA from Royal College of Art in London. He publishes with Jonathan Cape Random House, Gallimard Jeunesse in France, and Abrams Books in NYC, among other notable publishers. Originally from Japan he gains inspiration from cultural differences, social issues and historical events. He’s been teaching Illustration part-time at UoG since 2013 and predominantly sees himself as a pictorial storyteller.

Emma Evans

Emma is an illustrator and maker of many things. With a focus on colour and textures, she is drawn to flora and fauna subjects as well as a touch of the surreal in slice of life stories. She works in inks and gouache traditionally, but also includes digital and risograph printing in her practice. She’s always dreaming up the next autobiographical zine for small press storytelling and doodling rabbits.

Bach Singh

Bach is interested in narrative, drawing and telling stories. His work usually pertains to the human and sensory experience, and varies from figurative, landscape and abstract. Bach studied Art and Design at the University of Leeds. He has taught printmaking throughout the UK and worked with contemporary artists on editioning fine art prints in London.

ASSOCIATE LECTURER

Martyna Sabadasz

With a BA in Illustration at the University of Gloucestershire and an MA in Graphic Arts at UWE Bristol, Martyna is interested in visual storytelling. Fascinated by both the fantastical and the mundane, she shares stories through mural commissions, illustrations and zines.

ASSOCIATE LECTURER

George Hounsome

George is an illustrator, designer and lecturer working in Bristol, UK. She specialises in drawing and printmaking and uses her illustrations to tell stories and create moments which explore the relationships between place, space and time. She currently teaches into the BA and MA Illustration courses at Plymouth University, as well as the BA and MA Illustration at UOG. She is also co-founder of a small two-woman design and print studio called PIRRIP which is also based in Bristol.
